MÖNSTERÅS, SWEDEN — In August 2026, Swedish forest‑industry giant Södra announced the official completion of the lighting modernisation upgrade project at its industrial port in Mönsterås. The retrofit features FL820‑series LED luminaires supplied by UK‑based CU Phosco, with turn‑key delivery executed by Swedish partner Energisystem Sweden. The installed power has been reduced by 59 % compared with the original setup, marking another landmark case for energy‑saving high‑mast lighting retrofits at European industrial ports.
The Port of Mönsterås serves as a strategic node within Södra’s logistics network, supporting continuous industrial operations and cargo‑handling activities. Terminal operational areas demand highly reliable lighting and uniform light distribution. This upgrade targeted the terminal zone, recognised as the port’s most operation‑critical and weather‑exposed section. All legacy fixtures mounted on four high masts were replaced with 27 UK‑manufactured CU Phosco FL820 LED luminaires. Purpose‑built for high‑mast lighting applications, this product range is designed to substitute conventional 1 kW or 2 kW floodlight systems.
Substantial energy‑efficiency gains have been achieved through the retrofit. Based on an annual operating runtime of 4 380 hours, the new system is projected to save 87 293 kWh of electricity per year. Cumulative energy savings over the 10‑year warranty period are expected to reach 872 930 kWh, strongly underpinning Södra’s long‑term sustainability and energy‑efficiency improvement targets.
This project forms part of Södra’s broader energy‑efficiency enhancement and infrastructure improvement programme. Prior to this, Energisystem together with Assemblin had successfully delivered a lighting upgrade for the timber yard in Mönsterås, laying the groundwork for this port‑side retrofit. Graham Chick, Sales Director at CU Phosco, commented: “We are delighted to support Energisystem Sweden on this important project for Södra at the Mönsterås industrial port. This installation demonstrates the performance of our FL820 LED floodlights in large‑scale industrial environments — delivering outstanding lighting quality alongside significant energy savings.”
